I have a question
May 3 2009, 6:23 PM EDT | Post edited: May 3 2009, 6:23 PM EDT
and I don't want to piss you off...but I am going to ask it anyway...

You remind me very much of a couple of friends I have but both of them are in their 50s.

The reason you remind me of them is that they are curmudgeonly.
I think you may well be too young for that title but could be well on your way.

And actually, I am finding it kind of delightful.

Just so you know.
A refreshing change from most of the folks on this board.

I am myself mostly overly and irritatingly to most people optimistic so maybe that's why I find you so refreshing?

Not seeing a question there. :P

Curmudgeonly, huh? Yeah, I've already resigned myself to knowing I'm going to be bitter old man (damned whippersnappers. Back when I was their age...)

I consider myself a misanthrope most of the time with the phrase "People Suck" being something of a motto. I'm blunt and call things as I see them ... which, unfortunately, is one of the attributes that people either love or hate.

And I didn't even know people could comment on the profiles! :D

Well, I didn't either. I saw this and I was afraid it was going on the open forum!!
Bout had a heart attack!

I guess I forgot the question...at my age a common occurrence!
hehe

I was just wondering about how old you are? Both Jack and Steve are in their late 50s. They've had decades to build up their curmudgeon quota!

You don't have to tell me if you don't want to and I won't get my feelings hurt!
hehe

I can't believe I found something new to do on here.
I am impressed with myself.
hehe

Yes, people can comment your profile, have a general nose around, the only thing they can't do thank goodness is alter our profiles or read our PMs - be grateful for small mercies in this era of "Big Brother is watching you".

By and by, I don't think there's anything wrong in calling a spade a spade - far better that then a sickly well-intentioned smile followed by a stab in the back.

Although obviously swearing and politics are out because this is an open site, and it's a good job I'm writing in English and not in Spanish otherwise I'd have been long ostracised, given my love of "expressing myself" in the language of Cervantes - LOL

So this doesn't go out on the general discussion area does it?

I actually posted the first message here through stupidity!

I can quite happily teach you Spanish and how to "express yourself" in Spanish too :-))
No, this doesn't go out in the general discussion area it appears as a thread under your profile, however, anyone can view it - that's how I ended up taking part here, that and if curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back :-)
Threads under profiles tend not to attract so many people as they're usually run as virtual conversations between the person who owns the profile and a select few.
As a mod it's my obligation to check out the profiles and threads in general not just those under a profile or in the general discussion, as we do have some lines, which we're not allowed to cross because this is an open site, and anyone routing the Internet can view what's written here as a "lurker" . This is one of the reasons we urge youngsters not to publish their ages or personal details like their messenger contact, E-mail, etc., to be on the safe side.

As of '09, I am 37, so I'm getting a head start on my curmudgeon quota. Comes from many and repeated disappointments in life. :P

So true. But you know how it is: in this modern age of political correctness, people seem to want to be coddled and told soft lies instead of the hard truth. Some individuals (like me) prefer to be told the complete, unvarnished truth.

I've often joked about going into politics because of my bluntness and outspoken nature, but that's an idle threat 'cause I know I'd be a seriously polarizing figure. Plus, my politics do NOT match with the current climate that has everyone pleading for a government bailout (damned slackers.)

;)

Oh! I so do hate political correctness and molly-coddling stuff going on all over the place. Somebody told me recently that at schools they were starting to ban teachers from correcting in red ink because it could traumatise children!!!!

Thanks for the explanation!!!

We have lots of Spanish speaking folks in Florida, I probably need to learn "polite" Spanish first.
hehe

Although I must admit the more colorful expressions are more fun to learn!

Gads, my daughter is older than you!

hehe

Forgive me if I start going all motherly on you!

You do have a darned good start on curmudgeon status...
Of course you have a long way to go to match my friend Jack who is so curmudgeonly he doesn't even like himself.
