My all time favorite NCIS scene takes place in Kill Ari II. The timing of everything in this scene is perfection. Gibbs is walking back from getting his coffee. It is pouring rain and he is passing by Abby's lab windows. In the span of about 5 seconds, a speeding bullet narrowly misses Gibbs head, (he ducks as it buzzes by), it then hits the windows to Abby's lab, (Gibbs looks immediately toward the windows), then (the speed of sound catches up to the action) and we hear the rifle fire and Gibbs immediately looks that way. Gibbs instantly knows it's a sniper and takes off running (dropping his precious coffee) to see if Abby is alive. All of this orchestrated in a few seconds! This must have been a nightmare to set up for shooting, there is so much happening ...all of it so realistic as to how speed and sound work. I know the sounds are added later .. but that makes Mark Harmon's job all the more difficult because he isn't responding to any sounds when the scene is shot. Also, the sound of the rifle fire is really caused by the speeding bullet breaking the sound barrier as it leaves the barrel of the gun. That's why we don't hear that particular sound until AFTER the bullet hits Abby's lab. Great body movement by MH and great directing.
