Hide and Seek

Synopsis:
When a young boy finds a murder weapon, the team must trace ownership of the gun to find who used it last and who was murdered. (CBS Synopsis 3-9-09)

Episode Recap:
While a teenage girl is talking to her father in the war via webcam, the mother interrupts and they end the conversation. And the mother tells her video-game playing son, Noah, to clean up his room. After a few times of asking she decides to do it. Panicky he says he'll do it. She suspects he's hiding something. And she finds dirty magazines, and a gun.

Abby tries to gather the team but they keep saying a gun on a naval base isn't a problem. But then Gibbs walks in and says there was brain matter on it.

The Team interviews Noah, and his two young friends, Noah claims he found it in a stormdrain, but his friends admit to finding the revolver near a body, but when they lead the Team into the nearby forest (possible nod to King's "Stand by me"?) the body is not where the boys claim they found it. The Team discovers unusual tire tracks at the scene, which they follow to the body's new location. They suspect the body was moved, until Tony and McGee find it near a creek. The dead body was a petty criminal Dylan Bates.

Abby freaks out when she discovers the gun was not only used to kill their recently deceased, but had also been used in an earlier crime where a fatal shooting had occurred, she's calling it "evil".

After investigation they bring in Noah to interrogation. Gibbs keeps asking him why he lied, but then he said he lied to protect his father, who Noah claims to be the killer.

They talk to the father in MTAC and the father doesn't deny that he gave Dylan numerous threats, he denies that he murdered him.

The Team traces the gun to two recent robberies and Joey Ellis, its most recent owner; but when Ellis turns up dead, and the Team discover that he used their revolver to commit suicide, the investigation comes full circle, returning once again to Noah and his family. They talk to the daughter. She tells what happened.

She says that Dylan made Joey commit the crimes, which prevented Joey from getting into the navy like he wanted. When she found him dead as a result of suicide, she took the gun to show Dylan. They fought over the gun and it just all of a sudden shot Dylan.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • Tony cannot count to 5 in Spanish.
  • McGee says he was a scout and was very detailed in the woods. How come he couldn't recognize the Poison Ivy he contracted in 2 past episodes? (He did recognize it, he said beforehand in at least one of the episodes that he was sensitive to poison ivy and didn't want to go in)
  • McGee's father was in the Navy (not sure if this is new, but I think so?)
  • At the first Auction, McGee was surprised that he got outsniped to get Ducky a new set of Vintage golf clubs.

Funny Moments:
  • Ziva crashing a car into a stonewall.
  • McGee losing the auction only to have Tony win it, and still cost him money.
  • Tony counting in Spanish. ( Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro.....Five )
  • Young kid going back and forth with Ziva in the park.
  • Abby naming the maggots. And when the maggot gave birth and Abby was taking pictures with Ducky.
  • The very last scene when Ducky finds out about McGee trying to replace his golf clubs, then Ducky vaguely tells Tim about the jazz record he borrowed. "Something" happened to it but Ducky never says WHAT happened to it (or is about to happen to it).
  • Tony wastes about a grand on the wrong set of golf clubs
  • Ducky discussing his love of liver and mistaking Gibbs' "Duck" for a suggestion of type of liver instead of a reminder to get back on task.

Trivia:
  • McGee mentions reading the scouting magazine, "Scouting Life" as a boy. "Scouting Life" is the leader's magazine. "Boy's Life" is the magazine scouts get.
  • Carlease Burke (D"Arcy McKinna) also appears in 7x09 Child's Play. She was the legal representation for Noah Taffet when he was being interrogated by Gibbs.

Scarecrow4 Overnight Nielsen Ratings for "Hide and Seek" 2 Mar 25 2009, 5:32 PM EDT by BlackSwan17

Here are the Overnight Nielsen Ratings for Episode 19 "Hide and Seek"...The Presidential Address last night had all stations moving their schedule around so there was no American Idol to really dominate last night...And also The Address was on pretty much every station so that would be number one watched program but it was split between many stations so I just left it as separate stations....NCIS was back to its normal numbers for this week....

NBC topped the demos early with the Presidential News Conference and late (at 10pm) with Biggest Loser en route to wins for both adults 18-49 and 18-34.

First of all, don’t read too much long term significance into any of last nights numbers. It was an atypical night, and the numbers themselves could change noticeably when the final results are available

The results for the 8pm Presidential News Conference were fairly close, but NBC was on top both demos for both half hours. Without any broadcast competition except the President, Reaper could only manage one tick up in each demo from last week.

At 9pm, without American Idol to contend with, the 3 way battle between Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars Results, and NCIS was nearly a standoff. The 18-49 results were effectively a 3 way tie, but Loser was the clear 18-34 winner.

At 10pm, Loser had a much easier time winning both demos against the older skewing Mentalist.

Show --------- 18-49 Rating / Share ---------- Total Viewers In Millions

1.NCIS (9pm) --------- 3.9 / 10 ---------- 17.53 Mil.

2.The Mentalist (10pm) -------- 3.8 / 10 --------- 17.53 Mil.

3.Dancing Results (9pm) -------- 3.8 / 9 --------- 15.71 Mil.

4.CBS Pres. Address (8pm) -------- 2.0 / 6 --------- 9.89 Mil.

5.Biggest Loser (9-11pm) ----------- 3.8 / 10 -------- 9.19 Mil.
