Relationship Stats

How they met: They met on Air Force One when Gibbs was responding to the collapse of the football carrier. Kate was a Secret Service Agent. (Yankee White 1x01)

How long were they together: Not a couple but they had a very unique professional relationship. From the beginning of season 1 to her death at the end of season 2.

Relationship Time Line

Season 1

Episode 1: Gibbs, Ducky and Dinozzo head over to Air Force One to respond to the collapse of a Naval officer carrying the football. Kate was Secret Service and met Gibbs when he arrived, she was the only Secret Service agent onboard when they took off, because Ducky told everyone else to get off because he needed space. Gibbs and Kate bonded really fast on that flight, and at the end of the episode, Gibbs offers her the job with NCIS.

Kate is dead, Gibbs is hungry for the revenge of Kate's death. (Kill Ari 1&2)

What could have been....

Kate Todd and Jethro Gibbs had a funny beginning in there relationship as Kate refused to let Gibbs be her superior. Yet overtime she realized that he was her superior and began to respect that.
Some people view there relationship as Father/Daughter ,but most the the viewers view it as romantic or sexual , considering of the fact they saw each other like a man and woman first,and after that like superior/ subordinate,and considering the an-explicit flirting:the looks exchanges, a smile, a little touch,the complicity,nothing is so clear or evident and,because of that, it's more interesting and more deeper.The ones who see Gibbs and Kate like a couple are the ones who realize attraction doesn't ask to see your ID.
However these two were genuinely close, as loose friends considering Gibbs is not a close friend with anyone.Kate and Gibbs worked well together. There relationship was like more of a tough love one.Kate definitely doesn't see Gibbs like her father.Remember 1.23: Reveille ?

Not to mention the Yankee White-because of the tension between Gibbs and Kate DPB added the the redhead,who pick up Gibbs form time to time , and the all""Emergency blow" thing,where Kate falls into Gibbs arms.:)
However when Kate was killed Gibbs was genuinely traumatized and overwhelmingly guilty. As Ducky said "You and I are a couple of old chauvinists, women will never be equal in our eyes" this is where some of us see the father/daughter relationship between the two, with Gibbs wanting to protect her,.In Ducky's words"This is different" some of us can see their relationship like more than a Father/Daughter,because of the Gibbs answer "But it shouldn't be. Kate was an agent.She knew she had to lay her life on the line. But you're right.lt's different."
Gibbs always controlled his emotions – always! We had seen him in situations when not only he himself, but also his team and countless other people had been in mortal peril, their living or dying depending on his decisions, to be made in a split of a second – and he always had appeared unimpressed by the pressure, been cold to the heart. There are only two occasions, when his control and self-discipline had failed: The grief for his dead wife and daughter when he had awoken from the coma after getting hit by the blast of an explosion – and Kate’s death.
Based on their interaction in "Yankee White" we can see that Gibbs feelings toward Kate were anything close to fatherly. After all, she's definitely a strong-willed woman,something /we see that in the latest ep./ all his women have been. Kate and Gibbs saw something in each other when they first met on Air Force One.After he hired her, her admiration for him grew. It's clear she tried to impress him with her investigative skills .We can easily see that Kate feels an attraction to Gibbs (like who wouldn't?) He may feel something, too, but we all think he'd be better at hiding - or ignoring - it. She would try to hide it, but find herself staring, or sketching, or something.

Both of Abby and Tony sketches were caricatures whereas the one of Gibbs was a serious one.It's clear that TPTB want us to understand that she is attracted to him in some way and so her sketch depicts him as she sees/admires him.
How Gibbs would handle Kate's attraction - probably the same way Grissom in CSI handles Sara's fancy for him - trying to pretend it's not there, and that he doesn't feel the same due to some silly belief that work is more important. Before Kate died, we saw a lot of subtext with her and Gibbs. A woman like Kate can catch Gibbs and keep him. And Kate can learn from him through not only the job, but life.They make each other 'whole' in some way.
This ship had the potential to be perfect, but it didn't happen. Neither of them wanted to give into their hearts.Both Kate and Gibbs were understandably wary of coworker relationships . Gibbs had his problems with Jen/his partner and ex-lover/; Kate had her thing with Major Kerry/her college and lover/. Neither was about to make a move, especially within only two years of knowing one another. Gibbs' true feelings about Kate are known only to him and Kate's caricature of Gibbs remains a mystery. Kate respected Gibbs more than she did Tony, though, and possibly he respected her more than Tony did. Some of us also think that Gibbs after three divorces would know when to compromise and his personality is more similar to Kate's than anyone of the team.Gibbs liked Kate a lot"-remember his amused tolerance of her faults and ignorance of all things naval,that feeling that no matter what,he was always make sure she was OK , that sense that he is torn between professional respect and a chivalrous,old fashioned need to take care of her as well as the occasional urge to throttle her.Maybe he had feelings for her, but can't/won't recognize them because she is so different from his usual kind of woman. Without Kate in the picture, I fear we will never again see that side of Gibbs, which her character brought out.

"One shot,one kill" : Tony:....in there? That’s the tenth kid this morning. Kate: He’s really good at this. I’m even thinking of signing up. Tony: So what was it like? Kate: What like? Tony: Being his superior officer. Kate: You mean, did I get to boss him around? Make him salute me? Call me, Ma'am? Tony: Basically. Kate: It was great!
“The Immortals”: Kate:A bottom. And a hat? Tony:Puerto Rican. Gibbs:Any chance you’re going to try that on? Kate(to Gibbs):You first.
“The Good Wives Club”: Gibbs:Put someone in a wedding dress. Kate:Tony would look cute. GIibbs:Nope. Off interviewing the victim’s parents. Kate:Well, McGee then. Gibbs:No. McGee’s with Tony. Kate:Abby? Gibbs:No, up to her tats in forensics tests. Kate:Well what about you? (LONG BEAT) You won’t have to wear the dress.
"Bete Noire": Ari: ... Special Agent Caitlin Todd. Are you any good with this gun, Caitlin? Kate:Give it back and I’ll demonstrate. Ari:Oh, you’re a very good shot. Gibbs:I would love to demonstrate. Ari:Funny. Special Agent Todd said the same thing.
“Reveille”: (The episode begins with Gibbs dreaming about Kate in a body bag) Kate:What NCIS do you think I’m with? Sachs:National Crop Insurance Service. Gibbs:That’s us. Oh, yeah. She’s a whiz on how corn losses affect the pork belly futures. (Gibbs walks away) Kate:My boss. Weird sense of humor. Sachs:Yeah, I…(Kate walks to Gibbs ) Kate:How corn losses affect pork belly futures? Gibbs :Rule number seven. Always be specific when you lie. GIibbs:Go near her and I don’t care what government agency is watching your back, I will kill you this time. Kate(dreaming about Gibbs' death):Gibbs! Tony:You dream about Gibbs? Kate:What? No. God no. Tony:You just said his name. Kate:No, I didn’t. Tony:Yes, you did. McGee:What’s going on? Tony:Kate dreams about Gibbs. McGee:Oh, what was it about? Kate:No, I didn’t dream about Gibbs. WOW!! i relly wish that she didnt get kille. you can tell from the start that there is something between them. i know gibbs has rules but i think they would have ended up togeathr in season 3 or 4 if she didnt die. they just "clicked". he was very protective of her and also cared for her more than enyone else. she may have reminded him of his wife, shannon or daughter, kelly. she was a great person and they really had something special.

I just realized that someone finally put up a Kibbs pg.... thank you! I started watching the show after Kate had already left... But I am still a big fan of the relationship... I think there were a lot of inuendos that were stuffed into the show that indicate that they would have been good together.... It would have been great if they didn't actually kill her character off... But o welll
