Before Michael was famous:
  • He starred in Charmed (Season 1) in the episode "Good Warlocks Turn Bad" as Brendan Rowe, a demon who aspired to escape his evil heritage by becoming a minister.
  • Attended Boston University, American University in Washington DC, American University in Paris (1 Semester) and Menlo College before dropping out to pursue an acting career.
  • Attended Fairfield Country Day School in Fairfield Connecticut.
  • Michael studied at Brooks school in Massachusetts.
  • Played in a band to supplement his acting in the early days of his career - he plays guitar and piano. He sold shoes, delivered pizzas, and dabbled in songwriting. He also worked in the videotape library of ABC, a big part of his job there was to log and cart around one-inch reels of tape.
  • Michael was sent to survival camp at the age of 12 because his mother thought he needed to be toughened up.
  • He was to star in a TV series created by Aaron Spelling in 1996, called Pier 66, but after filming the pilot NBC dropped the show.

Interests/hobbies:
  • Michael enjoys playing the guitar and piano.

Memorable Quotes:
  • "My favorite show so far has been Prodigy, in which I got thrown off the top of a building, and she dove after me, and then we slammed through a window and landed on a bed. And I thought, 'You know, I'm a lucky man to be able to do this for a living. What an odd occupation."
  • (On his "Dark Angel" character, 'Logan') "He's got the tricked-out apartment. He's also extremely good at the computer stuff. I don't even know where the power switch is! My character kicks butt!"
  • (asked how hard it is to spend time with his son due to the long hours on “NCIS“) "It’s really hard. Luckily, August has a really solid home [with his mother, actress Amelia Heinle] and I get my weekends, when I’m there. We go to basketball games, we make home movies, we go for hikes - but yeah, it’s not ideal."
  • "The most challenging thing is when I take naps in between scenes. I'm a napper! I average two a day. And my character (Logan Cale in Dark Angel) wears glasses, so when I wake up from the nap my glasses are sort of bent and crooked and I have to straighten them out. There are a couple of scenes when my glasses appear crooked. And that's due to my love of naps."
  • (asked how he feels about "NCIS" after four years) "I'm so proud of it, and pleased and amazed at how popular it is all around the world. Walking around Sydney and Melbourne (when in Australia in May 2007), I was approached by everyone from goth kids asking if they can take a picture, to investment bankers and women in the supermarket. So it has a pretty broad audience."
  • (About his car) "I drive Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."
  • "I have almost a phobia about [interviews]. I get all paranoid and freaked out. I'll lie in bed going 'Why did I say that?"

Trivia:
  • Michael's father cut him off from his inheritance when he decided to pursue acting. His father made millions as the importer of the Swiss Army Knife.
  • Was engaged briefly to actress, Jessica Alba, in 2000.
  • His son August was born while he was married to actress Amelia Heinle.
  • Michael practises snorkelling.
  • He wears contacts or glasses.
  • Michael was raised in Fairfield, Connecticut.
  • Attended the TV Week Logies on May 6th 2007 as an international guest for Channel 10. The Logies were held in the Crown Casino Complex in Melbourne, Australia. Michael was accompanied by his niece, 'Alexandra Breckenridge', who is also an actress.
