THUMB TWIDDLING AND PONDERING

26th October

Why the title? Basically, because there's no new episode this week in the US, and in the Spanish State we get the final episode of S6, thus leaving us forlorn and abandoned, some more than most.

At least in the US you can speculate of what kind of shenanigans will be taking place in next week's episode that warrant Gibbs' boat coming out of the basement, Franks turning up and getting to see beyond the basement in Gibbs' House. In the Spanish State, however, there is as yet no word or sign whatsoever as to when we'll be getting Season 7, and by the looks of things unlikely to be some time soon.

Thank goodness for repeats and DVDs to calm the agitated breast on tenterhooks till the next airing. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? About how people managed before the advent of DVD or video, and when TV programmers didn't repeat episodes until yonks after a series had finished. Confess to being old enough to remember those times, however, never having been a great fan of TV except for the odd series, so I didn't really notice, however, now it's a different kettle of fish.

Well, that's all for now, got to keep twiddling my thumbs and pondering - LOL

Y con esto y un bizocho, se acabó lo que se dió.

ROCKY CARROLL AS LEON VANCE

25th October 2009

When I read that Rocky Carroll was joining the cast of NCIS as a regular I was both delighted and intrigued.

Delighted because I remembered him as Dr Keith Wilkes from my favorite medical drama Chicago Hope". Intrigued because the character relationship between Leon Vance and Leroy Jethro Gibbs was much, much different than that between Keith Wilkes and Jack McNeil (Mark Harmon) in Chicago Hope.

I freely admit that outside of Chicago Hope and now NCIS, I hadn't taken a lot of notice of Rocky's work. Mostly because the shows he has worked in like The Agency have never even blipped on my personal radar. Apart from the animated series Gargoyles where he provided the voice of Talon.

Rocky brings a great deal to NCIS as Director Leon Vance. He imbues Leon with a strength and interest that keeps us hanging on. Could another actor have made Leon Vance so well rounded, so real, so quickly? In terms of character depth, Leon Vance is on a par with the other characters. Rocky has "found" Leon very quickly. Every other regular actor on the show has been honing their character since season 1. Rocky's only been inside Leon's skin since season 5.

New characters in an established series often jar with the viewers because they are disadvantaged by their very newness. Rocky has taken his character's newness and used it to make Leon a deliberate outsider. Apart from the team. Above the team. And it has worked. This has polarized the fan base. Some love Leon Vance, some hate him, and some love to hate him. But any way you look at it, Rocky has made Leon a major part of the show very quickly.

I look forward to seeing Rocky take Leon even higher, as the character continues to grow in pace with the rest of the characters.

A BRIEF 'REPASO'

25th October

So to start the week off on the right foot (in the UK the week starts on Sunday - have to be rested before you can start working properly and finishes on a rest day, i.e. Saturday - a sensible habit), just thought I'd go over some points by way of a brief 'repaso'.

Right, now then, first and foremost a reminder of the satellite sites, i.e. related to this one, just thought I'd give some of you a jog to take a wander or two round these satellites and maybe even join, at least to bolster numbers. So here goes: Mark Harmon / Michael Weatherly / Cote de Pablo / Pauley Perrette / Sean Murray / David McCallum / Muse Watson / NCIS: Los Angeles . Now you have no excuse to drop and pay a visit, maybe even join (hopefully).

Just a brief reminder re. our site Code of Conduct page, might I just suggest you all take some time out to read this, paying attention to what is written there, since it's for everyone's benefit, not just to make the site look pretty. Why do I mention? Well, it's come to my notice, last week there was, some shall we call it 'primary school playground behaviour' going on in one of the threads, essentially due to differences of opinion, and people reacting by name-calling, etc. You know this is really sad, I mean we're all here because of a common denominator, i.e. NCIS. Now having said that, it also bears mentioning that this site has members in all age groups, numerous nationalities, etc., etc., but with one common focus NCIS. Obviously, given the number of people on this site, not to mention we are all different (thank God for that!) and as such think differently, like different aspects, different ships, etc., etc.. However, just because somebody thinks differently or expresses themselves differently does not given anybody the right to ball them out. There are ways of expressing dislike politely, simply by agreeing to disagree, end of story.

I hope I don't have to get back to that point again, any time in the near or distant future. Please just remember to respect the views of others. It's one of the beauties of being a human being in that we can all think differently - so play nice.

This week I'm told there is no new episode due to some sporting events in the US taking priority on the TV programming schedules, glad to see we in Europe are not the only ones affected by the predominance of sporting events over everything else, it was getting me worried there - LOL

Having said that, I do trust you will all continue to participate regularly this week, maybe taking a look back over past episodes, namely the first 5 of this season and anticipating what will befall on 3rd November in the episode Outlaws and Inlaws, where one of our favourite recurring actors will be appearing, namely Muse Watson aka Mike Franks, not to mention will be getting to nose around Gibbs' house beyond the basement, and discover 'perhaps', how Gibbs gets the boats of his basement, since we know the Kelly (last boat Gibbs made) will also be appearing in this episode. Definitely a lot to look forward to in this episode.

Y con esto y un bizcocho, se acabó lo que se dió.

SEASON 1 PERSONAL HIGHLIGHTS

24th October 2009

Today I'll take a look at my personal highlights of season 1. These are the things that really cemented NCIS as my favorite television show.

  • The pilot episode "Yankee White". It gave me a taste and an expectation of what a great series NCIS was going to be.
  • The scene in "Hung out To Dry" where Tony ends up doing an accidental parachute jump when he falls out of the aircraft during the struggle. The look on Gibbs' face as he watches Tony fall is classic.
  • The introduction of McGee in "Sub Rosa". The line from Gibbs of "Get Michael Jackson out of here before he ralphs" is probably the first thing I think of when I think of McGee. Also Gibbs telling Kate to go and "unhydrate". Got to love a man who creates his own words.
  • The scene with Tony and the iguana in "Minimum Security".
  • The Sheriff "Charlie" in "Good Samaritan". Ducky fancies her, but she's got her sights set firmly on Leroy Jethro Gibbs, much to Tony and Kate's amusement, and Gibbs' mild dismay. I would love to see Charlie make a reappearance on the show. The character had real potential.
  • The entire episode "One Shot, One Kill". This is one of my all time favorite NCIS episodes. Strong storyline, great drama and terrrific humor.
  • The quirky X-Files references in the episode "The Truth is Out There".
As always I would love to hear from you as to your personal highpoints.
